Semi Driver Arrested After Fatal I-84 Accident in Jerome Idaho
Two-Vehicle Fatality Collision on I-84 in Jerome County
The Idaho State Police (ISP) is currently investigating a tragic two-vehicle collision that occurred at 4:53 a.m. on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, on I-84 near milepost 171 in Jerome County.
Details of the Collision
A blue 2006 Honda Pilot, driven by a 33-year-old female from Twin Falls, Idaho, was traveling westbound in the right lane when it broke down. The vehicle had its hazard lights on when a 2022 Volvo semi-tractor, driven by a 63-year-old male from Virginia Beach, Virginia, also traveling westbound, collided with the Honda from behind. The impact caused the semi-tractor to turn sideways and crash into the jersey barrier.
Photos taken on the scene and witness reports indicated that the truck was hauling concert equipment for an upcoming Brett Young concert in Washington State.
Casualties and Injuries
Tragically, the driver of the Honda Pilot succumbed to her injuries despite wearing a seatbelt. The driver of the Volvo semi-tractor, who was also wearing a seatbelt, did not require transport for medical treatment.
Arrest and Charges
The driver of the semi-tractor was subsequently arrested on probable cause for felony vehicular manslaughter and booked into the Jerome County Jail.
Road Closures and Traffic Impact
Due to the severity of the accident, the eastbound lanes of I-84 were blocked for approximately six and a half hours as emergency personnel responded and cleared the scene. The westbound lanes remain blocked, and motorists are advised to check 511.idaho.gov for updated road conditions and travel advisories.

ISP received assistance from the Jerome County Sheriff’s Office, Idaho Transportation Department (ITD), Magic Valley Paramedics, Jerome Rural Fire, and Jerome City Fire. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
