Many in the Magic Valley are enjoying an end-of-summer, high-pressure system that jacked temperatures to up near 90 degrees Thursday, day two of fall in southern Idaho.

Thursday (September 24) felt like kayaking weather. Twin Falls hit 87 degrees for a high, and there were no signs of hoodies or pants at my kid's school when I picked him up at 3 P.M. I plan to keep wearing shorts through New Year's.

This is the time of year when heated car/truck seats, yard decorations, pumpkin-flavored coffee, and falling leaves are a daily thing for months to come.

Idahoans will be trading styled hair for beanies and pants for sweats in the coming weeks. Packages of candy corn will start showing up on the kitchen counter along with the groceries soon; Halloween is just 37 days away.

This is also the best time of year for Boise State football. The Broncos are on the road this weekend but return to Albertsons Stadium on October 3 to play Utah State. It'll be a sea of hoodies and beanies.

My condolences to those who don't like cold weather, as the warm stuff is likely gone and won't return for eight months or so. For those who love crackling logs in the fireplace and running to the store in fuzzy slippers, your time has just about arrived.
