Last week DARPA and Boston Dynamics unveiled "Atlas," a humanoid robot that looks more like it belongs in "The Terminator" rather than working in our homes.

If robots do eventually turn on us and take over the world, this is what our new robot overlords will look like.

Science Fiction jokes aside, Atlas is truly a remarkable robot. Developed by Boston Dynamics for the United State's Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), who report to the Department of Defense (DoD), this 330 pound robot is supposed to make our lives better. Atlas has been designed to not only walk and carry things, but can travel through rough terrain outdoors and climb using its hands and feet.It will aid in disaster relief and recovery.

Check out the video below to see the full range of Atlas' capabilities.

We seem to be getting closer and closer to a future where robots are a fixture of our society and will help us in every facet of our lives. I'm not sure if this is a good thing or not.

I certainly hope Atlas is programmed with Asimov's "Three Laws of Robotics."
