If This Car Function Becomes Mandatory in the Gem State it Could Save Lives
Driving in Idaho can be dangerous. While there isn't the population as in other places, the speed limit is higher on the interstate than in different areas, drivers get impatient with two-lane roads, and there are many miles of straight roads with no stop lights or stop signs making it easy to drive fast. While speed and recklessness often cause wrecks in the Gem State, they aren't the only cause. Weather can play a factor, random malfunctions with a vehicle, or being blinded by someone's high beams. There is one car feature that if made mandatory in Idaho could cut down on many of these accidents, and it would be simple to have in each vehicle in the state.
Automatic Car Lights Required in Idaho
Before you chuckle too hard, the title above does not reference having car lights automatically turn on. That is a common feature in most cars, but recently, when driving a rental car, my vehicle would automatically lower the high beams when a car was approaching or driving through a lit area, and then go back to high beams once the area or car was cleared. It was a nice feature and made one question why every car doesn't have it. There are so many drivers in Idaho that leave their high beams on, putting other drivers at risk, especially on two-lane highways or country roads. By adding this feature into all vehicles it could save lives.
Driving Safe in Idaho
While older cars will not have this feature, it shouldn't be too hard to put in, and while it would cost taxpayers and the state some money, it should become a requirement for all drivers in Idaho. Far too often, drivers forget to turn down their high beams, forcing other drivers to swerve, slow down, and stop altogether because they are blinded by the lights. With this feature, it is no longer a concern and makes the road much safer for everyone in the Gem State.

It may seem like a small thing, but talk to any driver who goes back and forth on two-lane roads in the Magic Valley or in the mountains, and many of them will complain about high beams being left on and how difficult it makes for them to see behind the wheel. This feature will save lives and make high beams one less thing that drivers have to worry about on the road.
