Boy Scouts of America ‘Scouting for Food’ this Weekend

If you've noticed a plastic bag at your doorstep, it's because the Boy Scouts of America will be 'Scouting for Food' this weekend in Idaho as a part of their annual event.

All food gathered by scouts will be donated to local food banks after being collected.

In order to participate, all you need to do is use a paper bag, box, or a plastic grocery bag and put it on your doorstep on Saturday morning, November 9.

The Boy Scouts of America suggest you donate food that doesn't need to be refrigerated and isn't stored in a glass container.

Some of the items the food bank needs the most are canned meals like soup, chili, or stew, canned meats and fish, whole grain pasta, brown rice, whole grain cereals, peanut butter, oatmeal, cooking oils, canned tomato products and sauces, canned fruits and vegetables, baking powder, baking soda, sugar, and whole wheat or all-purpose flour.

If for some reason the Boy Scouts of America don't pick up your non-perishable food items, it's best if you reach out to the Snake River Council for Boy Scouts of America to see if there's another way you can donate to the cause.

This year Boy Scouts of America is hoping to collect 100,000 pounds of food, which would be the equivalent of 83,000 meals to hungry people in Idaho.
