As the weather gets warmer and the season transitions into summer, many are not worried about getting an illness or getting sick, as typically most are healthier this time of year. When you travel, the risk of catching something does rise, but most still do not worry about it normally. This year is a little different, as there appear to be many illnesses and diseases going around, and despite it being summer, chances are high to catch something. One deadly disease that many hope to avoid has been reported in Idaho, and a known case is too close to home for some.

Many have heard that measles has been spreading throughout the country this year, and while there have been cases near Idaho, there haven't been any to cross the borders and make it into Idaho yet, until now. A known case has been reported in Southern Idaho in the Mini-Cassia region from an individual traveling for business and in the area recently. The South Central Public Health District is investigating the situation to ensure that it does not spread. The individual spent most of their time in Burley from May 19 through May 20 and was known to have been at Edge Water Dining and Spirits, Urgent Care of Idaho in Burley, and Intermountain Health Cassia Regional Hospital.

Symptoms For the Measles

Nearly everyone has heard of measles or has gotten a measles shot, but many have never experienced it and aren't sure what the symptoms are. If you find yourself with measles or someone around you with it, then expect high fever, coughing, conjunctivitis, which will include red and runny eyes, a runny nose, and a rash that will likely begin on the face before spreading to the entire body. It is an uncomfortable illness, and if not treated properly can be lethal. If you have had the vaccination, you will likely experience a lesser case than those who have not received it.

The good news is that the case has been treated and reported, but there are likely those out there that have picked it up increasing the odds of it soon spreading throughout the area. Make sure to get to a doctor if you have any of the symptoms above, and for more on the reported case, you can click the link in the second paragraph above. Make sure to wash your hands and be safe when traveling this summer, and hopefully, you won't pick up the measles or any other illnesses or diseases.
