YouTuber Claims Idahoans to Blame for Outrageous Real Estate Prices
A homesteading vlogger took to YouTube on a self-described rant, blaming Idahoans for the recent hike in the price of real estate.
Cody Wranglerstar is the stage name of a popular modern homesteading vlogger who lives in the Pacific Northwest. If you’ve ever searched for content about living off-grid in today’s world, there’s a good chance you’ve come across Wranglerstar’s YouTube Channel.
In a recently published video, (below) the vlogger talks about his bad experience surrounding a recent trip to Idaho. He claims to have crossed paths (at least digitally) with some locals who not only told him to stay out but threatened violence against him. He also says that it’s not newcomers from out of state who are responsible for the hike in real estate, but Idahoans themselves.
I’ll break down his video into brief talking points, but I would encourage you to watch the video below for yourself to be sure I don’t lose something in translation.
Quick disclaimer: For the sake of dissecting his commentary, I’m choosing to table the debate about what’s true on the internet and what’s not, and I’m taking what Wranglerstar has to say at face value.
He posted a recent video about visiting Idaho and was told not to come
Wranglerstar says that after he mentioned coming to Idaho, he was told to stay away and was threatened with violence. I couldn’t quite make out if the negative comments he received were said in person, messages in his DM’s, or both but It saddened me to think that anyone would threaten violence on someone who expresses interest in visiting or living in our state.
Values of those wanting a life in Idaho, aren’t different from Idaho natives
Wranglerstar asserts that the ideals and values of those who want to visit or move to Idaho are most likely the same as those who live here. He gives some wiggle room for the distaste of carpet baggers; but asserts that for the most part, out-of-staters who want to live in Idaho are probably like-minded.
Idahoans see their property as an ATM and are cashing in
This is the primary sticking point of the rant. People are indeed moving in from other states, but he asserts that Idahoans are the ones selling property to profit from the influx of new residents. If we don’t like what’s happening, we have no one to blame but ourselves.
He doesn’t have a problem with you cashing in
If you own property and choose to sell, that’s up to you. It’s your land, your house, and your livelihood, so do with it what you want. He also doesn’t take issue with someone wanting to move to Idaho to make a better life. It is, after all, a free country.
I wish there were more rants like this on the internet
Agree or not, I found his argument interesting and I appreciated how he went about his rant. He brought up an issue, he shared his thoughts and spoke directly without throwing a tantrum. His rant sure beats the snot out of some of the yelling and name-calling I’ve witnessed online as of late.
What do you think?
Do you think that Idahoans are to blame for the increase in real estate prices or do you think it’s not that simple? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments.
