JEROME, Idaho (KLIX) – A car crashed into the Snake River Canyon this morning after the driver, a young adult female, jumped from the vehicle before it went off the edge.

The Jerome County Sheriff’s Office received a call from St. Luke’s Magic Valley Medical Center Thursday morning, saying that a young woman who admitted herself for medical attention had leapt from her vehicle as it accelerated to the canyon rim, Sheriff Doug McFall told NewsRadio1310. He said the driver was considering suicide but changed her mind at the last minute.

McFall and others, including a Twin Falls County deputy, were on site to locate the vehicle this afternoon, which lay on the north side of the canyon across from the Evel Knievel jump site and about 150 feet below the canyon rim.

McFall said he didn’t know if charges would be filed against the driver. It’ll be the responsibility of her insurance company to remove the vehicle from the canyon, he said.
