
Two Idaho Soldiers Killed In Iraq
The Idaho National Guard announced over the weekend that Two North Idaho soldiers died last Thursday in a roadside bomb attack outside Victory Base Camp in Baghdad. 24 year old Spc. Nathan Beyers from Coeur d’Alene and 20 year old Spc. Nicholas Newby, also from Coeur d’Alene were killed when insurgents attacked their convoy using an improvised explosive device. Another Idahoan, Staff Sgt. Jason Rzepa, also a part of the 116th, sustained a serious leg injury. He is in stable condition after being transported to a hospital in Germany. The 116th is in the midst of a yearlong mobilization and deployment to Iraq as part of Operation New Dawn. The brigade is made up of 2,700 citizen soldiers from Idaho, Montana and Oregon. 1,500 of them are from Idaho. The 116th is expected to return to the US in September.
