Tonight the Twin Falls City Council failed to approve a jump lease agreement for daredevil Big Ed Beckley.  Council members Greg Lanting and Rebecca Mills Sojka were the only two to vote in favor of the proposed agreement.  More details as they are available.

TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KLIX)- There will not be a Snake River Canyon jump from the Evel Knievel site in Twin Falls. In a 5 to 2 vote the city council voted no on a Jump Site Lease agreement with Big Ed Beckely. Big Ed had intended to recreate and successfully jump a vehicle across the Snake River Canyon from the Twin Falls side to the Jerome side. At Monday night’s meeting city council members deliberated on the agreement that has been in the works for the last several months. About half a dozen members of the public showed up to comment on the proposed agreement. Most had concerns with what they saw as a vague public safety plan. Others felt it would tarnish the image of Twin Falls. Only one person who comment was in favor of the jump. Beckley says he felt the city council was swayed by those who commented.

Only council members Greg Lanting and Rebecca Mills-Sojka voted in favor of the agreement. The other council members felt that the public safety plans were not specific enough or that local law enforcement was not cabable of controlling the event. The question now is will there be a jump across the canyon. Mayor Don Hall says it will be on the agenda next week. REO Development group was the second choice for talks on a proposed jump.
