This Could Be The Year, This Becomes Illegal in Idaho…
I moved to Boise a few months ago, so I just assumed that doing this was illegal, like most places I've lived, but apparently not! What am I talking about?? Driving while using your cell phone! I couldn't believe it. Apparently you can also you other handheld devices like an iPad. It would be pretty crazy, pulling up next to someone using an iPad, but maybe it could happen.
Well the Idaho state legislature, tried to ban cell phone use last year and it didn't pass. So they're trying again this year. According to KTVB, the bill bans people from using hand-held electronic devices and requires you to use, voice activated and hands free technology. The bill would take effect statewide, regardless of local laws.
Your first time being caught using a hand-held device would set you back $50. Second offense would be $100 and $200 after that.
If the bill makes it through, this year, it would go into effect on July 1st.
Considering all the traffic issues we are having, this seems like a no brainer to me. I get angry when I see someone holding their cell phone and talking on it, especially when they are slowing down traffic, because they aren't paying attention.
Here's to safer driving in The Treasure Valley. Now can they just hurry up and widen the highway and teach people not to tailgate you oh and slow down when the weather is crazy! LOL
