It's always cool to see the national spotlight shine on Idaho - even if it's for the most unorthodox things. I was watching this series on HBO called How To with John Wilson when all of a sudden, he's traveling to Idaho and for a very interesting reason! There's only six episodes in the series but quite frankly I think that's just the perfect amount for a show as quirky yet equally captivating as it is.  Each episode is basically a different “how to” from Wilson who is a documentary filmmaker and self-described “anxious New Yorker" according to the show's description.

Wilson does it all on the show as writer, director, cameraman, producer, and narrator. HBO describes the show as "a uniquely hilarious odyssey of self-discovery and cultural observation." Wilson navigates through the streets of New York where he encounters real life characters that not even the best Hollywood writers could script while also attempting to narrate advice to the audience on everyday relatable topics.

Honestly, watching this show is a similar experience to people-watching at a Wal-Mart! I highly recommend it and would say it's a quick binge. Back to Idaho though! So how does the show's host end up filming an episode in the gem state?

On the episode titled, “How To Improve Your Memory” Wilson starts by giving some actual useful tips but then things quickly take detour. At one point in the episode, Wilson meets a Mandela Effect expert who informs of a Mandela Effect convention in Idaho.

If you're unfamiliar with the Mandela Effect, according to Healthline, it's "where a large group of people remember something differently than how it occurred. Conspiracy theorists believe this is proof of an alternate universe, while many doctors use it as an illustration of how imperfect memory can be sometimes."  A quick example of this would be JIF vs JIFFY peanut butter. Countless people will SWEAR that it used to be "Jiffy" peanut butter but now all of a sudden to them it's just JIF. In reality it has always been JIF and never JIFFY.

It's actually a very popular phenomena. In 2019 the West Coast Mandela Effect Conference took place in Ketchum, Idaho and drew in hundreds of people from all over including John Wilson.

There was a wide-variety of people who attended this conference ranging from skeptics to published authors. However by the end of it, the viewer along with Wilson can sort of understand that although their beliefs and passions may be far out there, these people are just ordinary everyday folks trying to make sense of this crazy world just like you and I.
