Smo is looking to score some legal marijuana on his new song, "Colorado Bound." The fun new collaboration with Afroman appears on the country rapper's upcoming new album, This One's for You.

The song was inspired by a real-life trip Smo took to the Pig 'N' Whistle, a dispensary a friend of his owns in Denver. He was reflecting on the irony of leaving Tennessee, where he lives, and flying just 2 1/2 hours to Colorado, where both medical and recreational marijuana is legal. The entertainer is a passionate advocate of both medical and recreational marijuana and has been a self-described "activist" in marijuana advocacy since he was very young, citing a terrible skin condition that he initially treated, as well as back pain, joint pain, anxiety and more that he addresses with medical marijuana.

On top of that, he says, it's just plain fun.

"It's a cool thing to walk into a dispensary and just order like you're at a McDonald's," he observes. "I bought like a thousand dollars' worth of product from my buddy's dispensary ... I go back to my buddy's house and I sit there and I smoke it all, do it all, and I sit there and I write this song."

Getting Afroman on the track was an unexpected bonus. Smo ran into a promoter in Seattle who had an in with Afroman, and after hearing the demo, he said, "Man, that would be a perfect song for Afroman to get on."

Afroman traveled to Tennessee to participate in the track.

"We had a huge cookout," Smo recounts. "He really had a hankering for some Cracker Barrel cornbread and some collard greens, so we got him a big buffet-style tray of that and some mac and cheese. I think he had three or four plates of food, and we smoked about 17 blunts and he did what Afroman does best, man. He walked in the booth and he just laid honey on top of that song."

The song is one of the highlights of This One's for You, which is set for release on Aug. 23 via Average Joes Entertainment. Though the song itself is intended in fun, Smo says there's a more serious message underlying "Colorado Bound."

"For me, I'm not waiting on the government to decide what to do" about marijuana laws, he states. "I'm just gonna go where it's legally accepted. As far as it becoming legal in Tennessee, I think we're pretty far at the bottom of that list, which doesn't make any sense. It would be a perfect cash crop for a lot of the whole Southeast region. But until then, we're just gonna stay Colorado bound."

This One's for You is currently available for pre-order.

Smo also has a memoir coming out titled My Life in a Jar: The Book of Smo, with physical copies due in September while the digital version will be available on Aug. 20. For more information about Smo, visit his official website, or follow him on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
