I recently returned from a trip to Washington State in which I had the opportunity to visit the final resting places of two of the biggest musicians of all-time, and sadly, two members of an unfortunate and macabre group of entertainers who all died at the same age.

I arrived back in Twin Falls on June 17 from a four-day trip to Tacoma to attend my daughter's college graduation. While in Washington, we did all the tourist stuff like visit Pike's Place, ride the elevator to the top of the Space Needle, and visit Mount Rainier National Park. Two things that were not on my radar prior to leaving were visiting the final resting places of a pair of rock and roll royalty.

Less than 15 miles apart from one another near Seattle are a pair of landmarks that became the eternal sanctums of two members of the '27 Club.'

For Idaho classic rock music fans who want to experience something truly amazing, I'd suggest taking the 490 miles drive northwest from Boise to Renton, Washington, where you can visit both the grave of Jimi Hendrix and the home that Kurt Cobain met his tragic ending just 13 miles away back in 1994; both artists died at age 27.

Hendrix died from a drug overdose in 1970, and Cobain a reported self-inflicted gun shot wound over 30 years ago. I found Hendrix's gravesite (Greenwood Memorial Park & Funeral Home) to be incredibly beautiful, and was overcome with sadness while walking the small park outside Cobain's former residence at 171 Lake Washington Boulevard East, in Seattle.

Kurt Cobain was cremated, so one could argue his final residence will forever hold his spirit.
