Need a Ride? How Will New Twin Falls Public Transit System Work?
This has been coming for a while. We knew by 2020 that it would be necessary. It has been discussed and debated. It has been studied and planned. It has been surveyed and reviewed, and beginning July 1st it will be here.
According to the sign, the City of Twin Falls now has a population of over 50,000. In fact, the population in 2023 has reached 56,121. Some Twin Falls citizens think the city is growing too large, but there is a benefit to residents now that the city hit this population milestone, public transportation.
There are federal requirements in a city with over 50,000 people. Twin Falls city planners have had a plan in place since 2020, and the moment has now arrived to put the planned and studied recommendation into operation. Enter microtransit.
How Will Microtransit Work For Twin Falls and Where Will it Operate?
Microtransit allows a more flexible transit process. There is no fixed route within the area like a mass busing system and riders have more open pickup and dropoff availability. There is no fixed time schedule during hours of operation, so riders can get a pickup on their timeframe. Multiple riders with differing travel necessities are able to be transported in the same vehicle. Efficiency is increased with pickup and drop-off in common locations.
RIDE TFT will service within Twin Falls city limits. Beginning July 1st, riders can request an on-demand transit from 6 AM to 9 PM Monday through Friday, and 7 AM to 9 PM on Saturdays using the RIDE Twin Falls Transit app or by calling 208-974-7433.
