Last week I leaned over to pick up one of my son's toys off the floor and I felt something "pop" in my calf muscle that was immediately followed by the sensation of water running down my leg, and then searing, blinding pain.

Assuming that I had just pulled a muscle, I did my best to hobble around and aside from a few aches and pains, my leg started feeling better.

Until this morning when I tore all the muscles around my calf.

I wish I could say I was doing something awesome like playing some sort of sport, or rescuing children from a burning building, but I was just dropping off Jack at Grandma's house for the day.

I opened the back door to my Chevy HHR and reached in to get Jack's bag. I saw that his drink had fallen on the floor in front of his car seat so I leaned over to get it. Bad move. Whatever injury I started in my calf last week, I finished today. I felt three immediate pops in my calf, and something slide down toward my ankle. I almost dropped to the driveway in a sobbing heap.

Once I finally made it to the St. Luke's Emergency Room--after going in to work and finishing my show (the show must go on!)--my doctor explained that I had torn the muscles last week, and this morning I shredded them. The main calf muscle and the Achilles are intact though, which means I probably won't require surgery to repair the damage.

I'm gonna level with you, this hurts. It hurts a lot. Really a lot. I'm hobbling around in a boot to immobilize my ankle with orders to rest as much as possible. I have to make an appointment with an orthopedist for next week to see what kind of therapy to expect and how long my recovery will take.

I'll keep you guys posted. In the meantime, I need to be fitted for my bubble.
