Kenny Chesney surprised fans at his concert in Detroit, Mich., on Saturday (Aug. 13) by bringing Kid Rock onstage for a rocking version of Rock’s hit “Cowboy."

"He is my brother in music [and] in life, and he is from Detroit, Michigan," Chesney told the crowd before announcing his longtime friend (quote via Rolling Stone Country). "He needs no introduction. Please make welcome Kid Rock!"

During their rousing rendition of Rock's hit single, the pair worked the stage, frequently high-fiving each other as well as members of the audience; Chesney rapped along with Rock, and the crowd did, too, creating a serious sing-a-long. And it wasn't just "Cowboy" that Chesney and Rock joined forces on, either: Their duet kicked off with a snippet of the Allman Brothers Band's "Midnight Rider," and just when it looked like Rock was about to leave the stage, Chesney's band picked up David Allan Coe's "You Never Even Called Me By My Name."

Rock's recent appearance wasn't the first time that he and Chesney have joined forces to sing the rapper's 1998 hit; in fact, Rock joined Chesney onstage during his very first headlining stadium show in 2003. But almost 15 years later, the duo was still electric, swapping lyrics and hyping the crowd for over five minutes.

Chesney was in Detroit for a stop on his 2016 Spread the Love Tour, and Rock wasn't the only big name that joined him onstage: The show also included sets from Miranda Lambert, Jake Owen and Old Dominion. The 2016 Spread the Love tour will wrap up in early September, just in time for Chesney to release his new album, Cosmic Hallelujah, on Oct. 28.
