Jerome County To Break Jail Ground in March

JEROME, Idaho (AP) — Officials in Jerome County in south-central Idaho plan to break ground on a new jail and sheriff's office in March after voters finally approved an $11.2 million bond.

The Times-News reports  in a story on Thursday that the new jail will have 135 beds with room to expand.

The current jail has 32 beds but up to 80 inmates at a time. The county must pay to house the extra inmates in neighboring jails.

Official say the new jail will eliminate that problem and save the county $250,000 a year.

Voters approved the bond in May 2013 after rejecting it in 2009, 2010 and 2012.
