
Heritage Retailer Closing More Locations—Idaho Is on the List
JCPenney’s Bankruptcy and Restructuring
JCPenney filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2020, citing financial struggles worsened by the COVID-19 pandemic. As part of its restructuring, the company has closed around 200 stores since 2020 and was later acquired by Simon Property Group and Brookfield Asset Management.
JC Penny to Close More Stores in 2025
In February 2025, JCPenney announced plans to close eight more stores across the United States by the middle of 2025. Closures like the ones planned by JC Penny reflect a trend in the retail space. Several major retailers are shuttering their brick-and-mortar locations (See below) in response to changing consumer behaviors.
JCPenney Locations in Idaho
According to the JC Penny website, Idaho has six current locations throughout the state:
- Boise Town Square – 300 N Milwaukee St., Boise
- Nampa Gateway Center – 1200 N Happy Valley Rd., Nampa
- Magic Valley Mall – 1615 Pole Line Rd. E, Twin Falls
- Grand Teton Mall – 2320 E 17th St., Idaho Falls
- Pine Ridge Mall – 4201 Yellowstone Ave., Pocatello
More JCPenney Closures Coming in 2025
JCPenney has announced another round of store closures for 2025, impacting several locations nationwide. Among them, Idaho shoppers will see a permanent closure in the Gem State.
Which Idaho Location is Closing?
The JCPenney at Pine Ridge Mall in Pocatello is set to close by May 2025. This is part of a broader redesign of Pine Ridge Mall, which will be turned into an outdoor shopping center. According to the Idaho State Journal, the project is set to begin sometime in 2025, with no clear projected completion date.
JCPenney has not announced additional closures in Idaho at this time.
