A southwest Idaho man who was last seen leaving Boise in 2014 remains missing after nearly 12 years. His possessions were discovered in 2022 near the north rim of the Grand Canyon in Arizona.

David Emmit Alford was last heard from preparing to hitchhike on August 24, 2014, from the Boise area. It is believed he was wearing a short-brimmed hat, cargo shorts, and a light-colored shirt, according to his Meta profile on Idaho Missing Persons Clearinghouse.

Alford's backpack, containing his identification, was found eight years after his disappearance, near the coordinates 36°14'39.7"N 112°05'11.6"W, which may place his last known whereabouts near the north side of the Grand Canyon.

Alford, who weighed 140 pounds and stood 5'8" when he went missing, reportedly held a sign while attempting to hitchhike in 2014 in southwestern Idaho that read 'Utah' on one side and 'Arizona' on the other, which explains how he may have managed to get to the Grand Canyon. Perhaps the motorist who drove him to Arizona had something to do with his disappearance.

Despite numerous searches of the surrounding area near where Alford's possessions were discovered, no signs of the missing man have turned up.

If you know the whereabouts of David Emmit Alford, or believe you witnessed something out of the ordinary while traveling southwest of the Kaibab Plateau in the summer of 2014, don't hesitate to get in touch with the Boise Police Department at 208-570-6000.
