Many Idahoans are enjoying a three-day weekend with the President's Day holiday arriving on February 20. Southern Idaho conditions look to change drastically as schools and businesses open back up on Tuesday.

President's Day is Monday. Many Magic Valley schools will not be in session and some local businesses such as banks, post offices, and courts will also be closed to the public. Just as business as usual is set to return on Tuesday, a weather system is expected to pass through southern Idaho that will likely include freezing temperatures and possibly a couple of inches of snow, according to weather.com data.

A system moving through northern and central California will also impact conditions in the Gem State next week. The snowpack in southern Idaho has exceeded 110% of normal since the start of winter. The counties of Twin Falls, Owyhee, Bear Lake, and Cassia have caught the brunt of the accumulations in this region of Idaho.

Travel throughout central and southern Idaho might be impacted by the brief system that isn't likely to exceed 48 hours, according to weather.com. The Tuesday morning commute (Feb 21) will likely include flurries, slick roads and highways, and decreased visibility due to fog.

Should school closures be in effect next week, we will get updates out through alerts and on the website as well. The latter part of next week (Feb 22-24) will also see temperatures dropping to the teens overnight and low-thirties in the day, but no snow is predicted for this time period.
