For years, a Hollywood A-lister has chosen to make central and southern Idaho his spring fishing spot, but that streak could come to an end in 2025 due to some not so friendly treatment he received while waist deep hunting trout in Gem State waters last year. Perhaps Utah, Wyoming or Montana will be more welcoming to the beloved actor and children's novelist from Happy Days, Barry, Parks and Recreation, and numerous Adam Sandler films.

Of all the celebrities I've had the good fortune of speaking with either in person or on the phone over the past nearly three decades, there hasn't been one as authentic and friendly as Henry Winkler. In 2015, I interviewed Winkler before an appearance at the Sacramento Comic-Con, and chatted with him for about 30 minutes in person. He brought along some copies of his children's books and autographed some photos for my wife and daughter as well; he's a real class act.

I think I share the opinion of most who live in Idaho that we'd love to see him back again and hope he doesn't let a couple of isolated remarks push him out of the state.

As Winkler always does, he passed through Idaho in the spring of 2024 to fish one of his favorite spots, alleged to be in southeastern Idaho. Normally, his social media pages on Meta and X are filled with positive and neighborly comments from Gem State residents. Last time he entered Idaho waters, this wasn't the case.

Apparently, some people have to let politics ruin everything. One Idaho resident took to Winkler's then Twitter page to tell him he was no longer welcomed in the state because of his political views. Winkler commented back in what appeared to be complete shock over the response he got.
