California Home to Two of the Most Dangerous Cities in the Country
Where you live can often dictate how safe or in danger you feel daily. It can at times be the state you live in, the town you live in, or even the neighborhood you live in. Different things can make a person feel unsafe, such as weather, high crime rates, or many other factors. It is important to feel safe when at home each day, or life can be too stressful and take a toll on someone. When it comes to living in a safe place, there are certain cities you want to avoid, and according to a recent study, California is home to two of the most dangerous cities in the country.
The Safest and Most Dangerous Cities in the United States
When it comes to being safe in the United States, there are certain places that people think of, and the same can be said for dangerous places to avoid. WalletHub recently released a list of the safest and most dangerous cities in the United States and ranked them using categories such as home and community safety, natural-disaster risk, and financial safety. Using these criteria, it was determined that South Burlington, Vermont is the safest city in the United States, with Casper, Wyoming being the second safest, and Warwick, Rhode Island rounding out the top three. Using the same criteria, it was also determined that the most dangerous city out of the 182 ranked is Memphis, Tennessee, with Detroit, Michigan being the second most dangerous, and Fort Lauderdale, Florida rounding out the bottom three.
The Most Dangerous Cities in California
California did not fare well when it came to safe cities, with only one being in the top 20. Irvine, California ranked number 11 on the list. There is some concern in the Golden State though, as two cities ranked in the top ten as most dangerous cities to live in. Coming in as the tenth most dangerous city in the country is San Bernardino, California, with Oakland, California coming in as the most dangerous city in the state, and the eighth most dangerous in the United States. Oakland has the most assaults per capita of any of the cities listed, and four California cities rank in the bottom five for the fewest law enforcement per capita.
While there are some safer cities in California, there are also some that are dangerous. As with any city, sometimes it can be which neighborhood you are in, or which part of the city, but overall the two listed above appear to be less safe than most in the country.
