BOISE, Idaho (AP) — The Idaho Public Utilities Commission has approved a one-time rate increase of about 15.3 percent for Idaho Power customers.

The commission cited low water again this year in approving the one-year surcharge on Friday to make up for about a $140 million shortfall.

Officials say declining revenue from surplus energy sales are part of the reason for the shortfall. The average residential customer will see an increase of about $12 per month.
