BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Idaho Power Co. says federal security and safety concerns have prompted the utility to fence off some popular fishing areas at the C.J. Strike dam south of Mountain Home.

The Boise-based utility said Wednesday the decision was made to permanently bar access to select sites, to bring safety at the facility in line with other hydroelectric facilities nationwide.

The closure of the areas on and around the dam are due to concerns for facility security as well as public safety, the company says. Still, Idaho Power says it hopes anglers are satisfied with improvements that have been made elsewhere to the parks, boating facilities and the C.J. Strike Wildlife Management Area. It believes those are adequate to provide fishing opportunities.
