Idaho Drivers Paid the Price at the Pump

NAMPA, Idaho (AP) — A new report from the motor club AAA says Gem State drivers were feeling pressure at the pump last year.

The Idaho Press-Tribune reports gas prices were an average of 2 cents higher in Idaho compared to the national average of $3.49 per gallon. Prices were even higher in Boise: Drivers in the capitol city paid 16 cents more per gallon than the average American.

The state average is still 7 cents lower than what Idahoans paid in 2012, and AAA predicts prices will drop slightly this year. The report pointed to refinery shutdowns as a possible reason for the higher costs in Idaho. But the Idaho Attorney General said retail markup was also a likely culprit, with one retailer claiming about a 30 cent profit on each gallon.
