Home Remedies for Cold Season

It's the most wonderful time of the year: flu season. If you don't have a cold or the flu, chances are you know someone that does right now. I am blessed enough to be able to say I'm the colds latest victim and it has been MISERABLE. I don't remember having a throat this sore EVER and of course, having a job that require me to talk means that the last couple of days have been just simply awful.

That said--I'm looking for some home remedy help. What helps you power through a cold--specifically, a sore throat?  Some friends and I joked today that our Mexican grandmas would be covering us in Vick's Vapor Rub if we were kids again--because that's just, no joke, the most Mexican thing a kid remembers growing up.

Others have told me whiskey and to be honest, nothing sounds worse than a salt water gargle??
