BOISE -- Idaho Gov. C.L. "Butch" Otter is recovering at a Boise hospital after undergoing hip surgery Tuesday morning.

First Lady Lori Otter tells KTVB that the her husband's surgery went well, but that doctors had to unexpectedly do a total hip replacement due to deterioration to a bone.

Gov. Otter will remain in the hospital until Thursday, she said, adding that she and the governor are appreciative of the all the thoughts and prayers they've received.

The governor said last week that he expects to be out of the office for several weeks due to the surgery, but plans to work from home.

In the meantime, Lt. Gov. Brad Little will take over some of the governor's duties.

Otter says he will hold meetings by phone until he is medically cleared to return to work.
