Twin Falls Pays a Solemn Tribute to 911

The annual Magic Valley 911 Memorial event brought the community together for a touching tribute to the events of September 11, 2001. This year's commemoration was nothing short of spectacular, leaving attendees with tears in their eyes and and sense of unity.

2023 Magic Valley 911 Memorial

Here’s a brief recap and a handful of photos from this year’s annual Magic Valley 911 Memorial event.

An Aerial Salute and Tribute to Heroes

The event featured a jaw-dropping Air Force flyover, perfectly choreographed to coincide with the climax of a beautifully sung Star Spangled Banner. Guest speakers at the event delivered heartfelt tributes to the heroes and victims of 9/11, reminding us all of the importance of unity and resilience. A 21-gun salute followed, paying homage to the fallen heroes.

Unfurling the Giant American Flag

As the sun shone over the Snake River Canyon, the giant American flag was unfurled, symbolizing the unity that transcends the tragedy of 9/11. The flag, spanning the canyon, served as a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made to protect our freedom.

A Gathering of Unity

The 911 Memorial event provided a time for remembrance, reverence, and community. It recreated a little slice of the unity felt in the aftermath of the 9/11 tragedy. Attendees shared tears, hugs, handshakes, and smiles, reflecting the strength of a community that stands together in the face of adversity. There’s not a city in any other state that I’d rather be in for this kind of event.

Record-Breaking Attendance

This year's event witnessed a record-breaking turnout, with an estimated 3500 people in attendance. The overwhelming support from the community made it the largest gathering in the event's history, underlining the significance of remembering 9/11.

A Flag to Remember

If you weren’t able to witness the giant American flag at the event, it will remain on display throughout the week as a tribute to various service agencies.

  • September 12: The flag will fly in honor of firefighters.
  • September 13: It will be dedicated to police and dispatch.
  • September 14: A tribute to search and rescue.
  • September 15: A special day for veterans and the military.

The flag will be lowered on the morning of Saturday, September 16, 2023, marking the conclusion of this year's Magic Valley 911 Memorial event. As it is gently folded away, the spirit of unity and remembrance will continue to live on in the hearts of the Twin Falls community.

Magic Valley 911 Memorial - Flag Walk 2023

Several hundred people gathered at the Twin Falls Visitors Center on September 10, 2023 to watch the American Flag being carried by a group of 911 Memorial committee members and volunteers, in memory of the fallen. As impressive as the flag is, it's small relative to the flag that will fly across the Snake River Canyon on September 11.
