A Good Number Of Idahoans Will Die Having Never Left Birthplace

Travel is very important to many Americans. The thought of dying and never venturing outside your birth zip code seems unthinkable to some people, while others are so comfortable staying put that doing things like seeing the ocean isn't at all important.

Travel is important to me, but I haven't done a great deal of it. Aside from a Caribbean vacation, a couple of flights to the East Coast, and a pair of trips to Hawaii, the rest of my travels have been primarily throughout the Western United States. I guess I'm still more fortunate than some.

My daughter is preparing to go to Japan in October, which means she will spend twice as long on a plane as I ever have, which I don't envy her for. I hate flying, but there are a couple of destinations I would fly more than 10 hours to visit before I leave this physical existence.

U.S. Survey Finds More Than 10 Percent of Americans Will Never Travel Outside Home State

Will the lack of globetrotting be one of the final thoughts we have before we die? Probably not.

Forbes released a survey that found that over 10 percent of Americans will never travel outside state lines, and even more will never fly on an airplane.

I meet a lot of people in my line of work, and there are some Idahoans I've spoken to who have told me that they don't ever have plans on exploring outside the Gem State.

To each their own, but I would still like to check a few worldly destinations off my to-visit list. If I can spend some time in Ireland or Italy, I'll consider my travel needs met.
