Fans of the House of Mouse can rejoice because Disney World announced earlier today its plans to reopen.

The Disney theme park in Kissimmee, Florida plans to begin a phased reopening on July 11 for Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom. Then on July 15 it will reopen EPCOT and Hollywood Studios.

Disney World, along with Disneyland in Anaheim, California, both closed in mid-March because of the coronavirus pandemic. (There is no word yet when Disneyland will re-open.)

The reopening plan was approved Wednesday morning by the Orange County government.

Disney says it is implementing several measures to safely reopen and prevent the spread of the coronavirus at its parks.

Here are some of the steps they are taking to ensure guests' and employees' safety:

  • Employees and guests will be required to wear face coverings and undergo temperature screenings before entering the parks.
  • Disney will reduce capacity at the parks and the resort will temporarily suspend parades, fireworks and other events that create crowds.
  • The resort will also enable cashless transactions by setting up a contactless payment system.
  • Disney will also increase the number of available hand-sanitizing stations.

There has been no official word from Disney regarding what reduce capacity will be initially.
