Will Idaho Feel Better Now That the 10 Darkest Weeks Are in the Past?
National Geographic reports that 70 percent of mammals are nocturnal. Humans are not one of those mammals. While some people may work at night, if given the opportunity and pay, many 3rd shift people would choose to switch to a day position. Not minding working at night is not the same as loving living in the dark.
What is it Called When People Like Darkness?
No, they aren’t vampires. Nyctophiliacs are people who prefer darkness or night. There isn’t anything wrong with it. It is just a description of a personality type. Interestingly, there are other personality traits that may come into play with a true nyctophile vs. a person who happens to keep an overnight schedule.
How Are Dark Lovers Different?
Beware the ‘dark triad.’ Nyctophiles may exhibit traits of psychopathy, Machiavellianism, and narcissism. This means that people with these traits are self-obsessed, willing to harm other people to achieve their goals, and manipulative. Not saying that happens with all nyctophiles, just saying that there was research and results of that research. What?
What is the Opposite of a Nyctophile?
If you have been having trouble keeping a perky attitude for the past couple of months, you may be a heliophile. These last weeks of little sunlight have been draining on you people in the northern hemisphere. But relief has come. The 5 weeks before winter solstice on December 21st, 2023, and the 5 weeks after have officially passed.
Vampires and nyctophiles will have to adjust their activities because the 10 darkest weeks have passed once again. Perhaps they could think of relocating. Perhaps Norway would be good. 2.5 months of darkness may help their other troublesome traits.
It may not be time to plant flowers and fill hummingbird feeders, but it isn’t a bad idea to start planning.
