Chris Lane and Lauren Bushnell are engaged! The country singer and his reality TV star girlfriend made it official over the weekend. People reports that the 34-year-old "Take Back Home Girl" hitmaker proposed to the 29-year-old alumnus of TV's The Bachelor on Sunday (June 16) in the backyard of her family's home in Oregon.

Lane set the stage for his proposal by performing a song titled “Big Big Plans” that he wrote for Bushnell.

Right now we’re back in her hometown / and I’m down on one knee," he sang and then emulated those lyrics right afterward. There was only one hiccup. “As I was about to propose… I stepped in fresh dog poop with my bare feet,” Lane says. “Not at all how I planned it out in my head!”

“Even though I felt pretty confident I was going to get the ‘Yes,’ I’ve never been that nervous,” he adds. “When I got to the third verse of the song and knew it was time, I pretty much blacked out. The next thing I knew, she said ‘yes’ and the nerves just lifted! It’s an explosion of excitement, pure joy, and love."

Lane is actually very close to Bushnell's father, and that made him comfortable with proposing on Father's Day and with her family present.

“I was initially worried that doing it on Father’s Day might not be the best move, but her dad, Dave, said that it could only add to his Father’s Day and that’s when I decided Sunday, June 16 was the day,” he tells People. “Shout out to Lauren’s parents, Dave and Kris, for having the yard in tip-top shape!”

The engagement ring is a 3.5 carat, emerald-cut diamond.

The couple have been dating since the fall of 2018, and they stepped out together publicly in November at the BMI Country Awards in Nashville. They have already moved in together, and Lane reveals they already know they want kids, though they have made no concrete plans.
