The data does not explain why people struggle with this word, but it is likely due to mixing up 'I' and 'E' and perhaps placing the 'L' in the wrong place. Of all the other states, only Utah had 'definitely' as its most misspelled word.

With only two states having 'definitely' as their most misspelled word, it might be surprising to know that it is also the most misspelled word in the entire United States. The second most misspelled word is 'separate', which is easy to figure out why. Most people put an 'E' where the first 'A' is. The third most misspelled word is 'necessary', most likely forgetting to use two 'S's' or messing up the vowels. Coming in as the fourth most misspelled word is 'belief', and the fifth most misspelled word is 'through'. Do any of these five words mess you up when spelling them?
