Brantley Gilbert has been forced to stay away from the gym in recent weeks as he recovers from a hernia. “I’ve got four tears in my stomach," he says explaining it was from lifting too much.

Gilbert talked to Taste of Country Nights host Sam Alex about his new album 'Just As I Am' (in stores May 19) and his workout regimen, which is intense. He likes to hit the gym five days a week, saying as long as he does that, sleeps well and stays up to date with his supplements, he stays fit (he also watches his diet). And he likes to lift weights more than aerobic exercises and cross fit. In fact he flat out said he doesn't like cross fit.

“I think I really, legitimately got it from singing,” Gilbert says about the umbilical hernia. There's a strain on his stomach when he sings, although he admits he's not sure if there should be.

'Just As I Am' is Gilbert's second album with Big Machine and it includes his current hit single 'Bottoms Up.' He'll be appearing at the Taste of Country Music Festival in June.
