With the warm, summer weather upon us in Idaho, property owners will start noticing a surge in all things that crawl and slither. One pesky bug that Idahoans know all too well has started invading doors and windows on Gem State properties and will continue to do so for the next several months.

We recently bought a new home in 'the presidentials' of Twin Falls. My wife and I were cutting down tree branches, watering, and doing some general landscaping on Tuesday when we saw a familiar foe trying to gain access into the home through a window.

The Box Elder bug might be the most despised, annoying pest that Idaho homeowners have to deal with, aside from the late-night tweeker wandering city alleyways.

The most effective treatments I've read from those who have tried them out are the compound powder Diatomaceous Earth, Ortho Home Defence granules in the window tracks, and at the base of trees, and a Dawn liquid soap barrier with drops of peppermint.

Another Idahoan commented on the Meta chain, 'Burn down the tree.'

That might be a bit extreme. Good luck with the battle.
