Spring is the official kickoff for several school sports. Kids and teens are currently being molded into shape by men and women who have one thing in mind: beating all other area programs into submission.
Competition is healthy. Without it, we wouldn't have gold medals, statisticians, trophies, awkward gatherings at the coach's house, and most importantly, the 'agony of defeat,' to steal a line from the Wide World of Sports program from decades ago.
Defeat is what molds champions, but it still blows.

Early spring is a sports fan's time of year. We have March Madness, the National Football League draft is coming, the National Hockey League playoffs are getting underway, professional baseball is in its early season, and pro basketball teams are aligning for playoff runs.
What else could fans of sports ask for?

On the local level, community sports such as tennis, golf, track and field, and others are gearing up for the season. Spring practices are also getting underway for the baseball and football seasons, and leading the charge across the sports spectrum are your coaches, with their whistles, hilarious motivational expressions, obscenities, and job insecurities.
The coaches who motivated me as an athlete growing up were both disciplinarians and friends who looked out for me. The experience was very similar to the coaches in the 1993 movie Dazed & Confused, a masterpiece coming-of-age film.
We are expecting incredible things from our local Twin Falls County sports programs this spring and summer. It's time for our area kids and teens to train for the pinnacle of sports excellence, and for us parents to relive old glory days on the field.
