Ada County Deputies Save Woman When Car Crashes Into Pond
BOISE, Idaho (KLIX)-A 51-year-old woman was saved from a submerged car that crashed into a pond Sunday morning in the Meridian. According to the Ada County Sheriff's Office, at around 6 a.m. one of its deputies witnessed an SUV lose control after hitting a berm near the intersection of Pine Ave and Eagle Road and ended up on the frozen pond. The SUV broke through the ice and sank with only a small portion remaining above the water. Deputy Dylan Sklar noticed no one had exited the vehicle and radioed for help. A short time later Deputy Dalrymple arrived and both jumped into the frigid water to retrieve the woman. The deputies determined the woman was the only one in the car and swam her back to the shore where paramedics took over. The woman was taken to an area hospital for minor injuries. The sheriff's office said it appeared the woman was in shock from the crash, airbags going off, and the cold water. The temperature outside at the time was about 23 degrees. The sheriff's office said the two deputies were doing fine. This is the second time two officers saved a person's life after their vehicle went into freezing water. A similar incident happened at Hayden Lake in late January where two Kootenai County Deputies saved an elderly man who had gotten confused and drove down a boat launch.
