According to a new study, if you want to predict how a first date is going to go, all you need to do is . . . see if the person you're dating talks like you.

James Pennebaker is a professor at the University of Texas.  And he found that couples who use similar speech patterns tend to be much more compatible than couples that don't.

And this doesn't necessarily mean you both use the same level of vocabulary words, or you both like to curse up a storm, or you both end every sentence like Ghostface Killah with "know what I'm sayin'?"

According to Pennebaker, you should look for the little words you're both using.  If you're both casually referencing things you talked about earlier in the same way, it shows you're both tuned into the conversation.

For example, if you mention an article you read about the iPhone and then, 20 minutes later, you reference "the article" and he or she knows what article you're talking about and also calls it "the article" . . . it shows you're both comfortable.

In the study, couples that used those familiar terms were four times more likely to go on a second date.
