There are certain times of the year that everyone looks forward to. Many enjoy summer because the kids are out of school, it is warm, and it is the perfect time to travel and have fun. Others enjoy Christmas cause of the holiday season, the gifts, the music, and everything that comes with it. For many, fall is their favorite time. There is football, nice weather, Halloween, hay and corn mazes, and plenty of fun. Sadly, none of those times are right now. Right now through May is the worst time of the year in Idaho, Washington, and Utah, and there are a few different reasons for it being the worst.

Throughout the long year, many need more than a standard weekend to regroup, rest, and get away from the stress of work for an extra day. There are three-day weekends built into the calendar throughout the year as many holidays such as Memorial Day, Labor Day, and Presidents Day all fall on a Monday. While not everyone gets these days off, knowing that some of them are out there helps mentally to know if you can get to that weekend, you can enjoy some extra time off, without burning through your paid time-off (PTO). The problem right now is that now that President's Day has passed, there is no three-day weekend or holiday from now until Monday, May 26. That is the largest time throughout the year without a holiday that allows employees to have a day off since Easter falls on a Sunday.

Adding to the fact that there are no days off during this long stretch, being stuck indoors doesn't help either. While this winter hasn't been as bad as most, typically this time of year is when kids are stuck inside due to the cold temperatures that dominate Idaho, Washington, and Utah during these long months. It makes families restless and has parents pulling their hair out. There isn't anywhere to go or much to do, since the weather can often keep residents locked inside. During this time, there is no more football to watch, no baseball, and unless you are a basketball or hockey fan, you likely do not enjoy sports. It is a great time to binge-watch shows and watch movies, but that can get boring after so long. Hitting the slopes is great, but it can be pricey and weather conditions can make getting to the slopes close to impossible on certain days.

The next couple of months in Idaho, Washington, and Utah are going to suck. The best anyone can hope for is that they go by fast and that the winter remains mild this year, making an early arrival of spring weather a possibility. Don't get too down, only three and a half months until the next three-day weekend.
