The Girl Scouts are cutting back on the different types of cookies they're selling. Right now they have 11 varieties . . . but this year, some troops are only selling SIX as a test. If the test works, they'll officially cut down to six flavors next year.

According to a message we received, this doesn't necessarily apply to the Magic Valley Girl Scouts.

By cutting flavors, they can save money on production, and also help the Girl Scouts focus their sales efforts. So which six are going to survive? Basically, it's the classics.

#1.) Thin Mints
#2.) Do-Si-Dos, which are the two oatmeal cookies with peanut butter in between.
#3.) Trefoils, which are the shortbread cookies.
#4.) Samoas, also known as Caramel deLites, the vanilla cookies covered in caramel and sprinkled with coconut.
#5.) Lemon Chalet Cremes, the cinnamon cookies with lemon filling.
#6.) Tagalongs/Peanut Butter Patties, the vanilla cookies layered with peanut butter and covered in chocolate.

The flavors getting cut are Thanks-A-Lot, sugar-free chocolate chip cookies, Dulce De Leche, Lemonades, and Thank U Berry Munch.

[UPDATE]

According to this message we received, our local Girl Scouts will be selling the "discontinued" cookies this year.

I'm writing in regards to a post you have on your site related to Girl Scout Cookies downsizing to only six varieties.

Girl Scouts of Silver Sage is selling ALL eight varieties of Girl Scout Cookies. We are offering customers the same varieties as last year, including Thin Mints, Samoas, Trefoils, Do-Si-Dos, Tagalongs, Dulce de Leche, Thank You Berry Munch and Lemon Chalet Cremes. The Wall Street Journal reported on a pilot program testing the reduction of Girl Scout Cookie varieties to six. This does not involve the Girl Scouts of Silver Sage which serves Eastern Oregon, Southern Idaho, and parts of Northern Nevada.

Girl Scouts of Silver Sage's Cookie program is in full gear, with booth sales starting March 4-20. All eight varieties of Girl Scout Cookies are being sold.

Thank you for supporting Girl Scouts. Our cookie program helps to fund Girl Scout troop activities, programs and volunteer resources, financial assistance to girls from low-income communities and our camp programs. All the proceeds remain in the local community.

Please contact me with questions. Thank you.
