NASA's Mars Curiosity rover made touchdown on the red planet last night utilizing an incredible Rube Goldberg landing system that included a parachute, retro-rockets, and a sky crane. Amazingly, it all worked perfectly and Curiosity is now telemetry and images back to Earth. But it's an image from another NASA spacecraft that has taken our breath away today.

Why Haven’t We Been Back To The Moon?
On July 20th, 1969, Buzz Aldrin and Neil Armstrong became the first men to set foot on the moon. At 2:18 MDT Armstrong announced, “Houston, Tranquility Base here-the Eagle has landed,” and an estimated one billion people watching or listening around the world cheered. The world was united in triumph. Our last Apollo launch, Apollo 17, touched down on the Moon's surface in 1972 and we haven't been

Shrinking Funds Shut Down Alien Search Institute [POLL]
Since 2007, astronomers at the SETI Institute in Northern California have been scanning the great beyond for signs of alien life. However, due to a decrease in the funding the institute receives from NASA and other government sources, the institute will have to shut down the powerful bank of 42 radio dishes that it uses to target unexplored planets.

First Contact With Mercury
We've made contact with Mercury, the planet closest to the sun. This photograph—which was taken yesterday, March 29, 2011 at 5:20am EDT—shows the surface of the innermost planet of the Solar System with unprecedented detail. It was taken by NASA's Messenger, the first human-made spaceship to orbit this tiny, battered, and scorched rock.

NASA unveiled more proof that we may not be alone. A new planetary system, Kepler-11, has been discovered with rocky planets much like our own solar system. This system, approximately 2,000 light years from Earth, was discovered using NASA’s Kepler Space Telescope and is re-writing the rules of astrophysics.
