Montgomery Gentry Singer Troy Gentry’s Father Dies
Montgomery Gentry's Troy Gentry's father has died. The country duo shared that Lloyd Gentry died early Sunday morning (Aug. 13).
No other details were provided, but the group's Facebook page is asking fans to keep Troy, wife Angie and their family and friends in thoughts and prayers today. Lloyd Gentry is preceded in death by Troy's mother, Patricia, who died in 2007, and Troy's brother, Keith, who died in 2014.
Gentry has reflected on summers spent working for his father in the past. He shared that Lloyd started in the restaurant business in his 20s, and that's what his kids knew. Later he'd get into the bar business.
"You know, I got in there, would bartend, and help wait tables and work in the kitchen," Gentry told K-FROG radio in 2010. "Throughout the summers, and while I was, you know, nights I wasn’t playin’ music, I was in the club helpin’ Dad out."
Country Stars Who've Faced Terrible Tragedy
It's not clear if Montgomery Gentry will need to reschedule any shows as Gentry grieves. The duo's next dates are scheduled for Thursday and Friday in Illinois. Musically, their last album was Folks Like Us in 2015. Their personal lives and the health of loved ones has dominated news headlines about the 2000s hitmakers, however. Shortly after Gentry's brother died, the singer shared that his wife was battling breast cancer.
Eddie Montgomery has experienced several devastating moments over the last decade, including a cancer battle, divorce, the death of his son and filing for bankruptcy. In September 2016 he collapsed on stage during a show in Kansas. The duo said it was due to dehydration.
