Local Update: Idaho Shooting Incident Investigation Underway

A press release from Gooding County in Southern Idaho shared the details of a shooting that happened in Wendell on January 6th a few minutes after 2 PM.

The press release states that the Gooding County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call that a man with a gun had shot another man who approached him while holding a knife.

Man Shot After Brandishing a Knife in Southern Idaho

Monday afternoon, Ryan Rollins was shot after brandishing a knife and approaching another man. The report says the men knew each other. The report isn’t clear as to whether Rollins was shot by the man he was approaching or another man who was in the area. The report says:

Ryan Rollins approached a man he knew, while reportedly brandishing a knife. In response to that action, a man discharged a firearm striking Rollins.

Rollins was transported by air ambulance and is receiving medical attention at a local hospital.

Based on early reports and information, police believe the incident happened around 2:05 PM on East Ave B in Wendell and no one else was injured in the incident. They also do not believe there is a threat to the public.

The shooter is cooperating with law enforcement and the Gooding County Sheriff's Office is looking for witnesses who may have information about what happened and can help them gather facts about the incident.

The Gooding/Wendell area has been in the news a lot recently. A recent rollover accident on December 31st in Gooding County sent 2 of the 4 occupants to the hospital.

2 teens are also facing first-degree murder charges in Gooding County in relation to the death of Another teen, Dax Rollins. It is believed that Alexander Garcia, 17, and Roland Delacruz, 15, lured 18-year-old Rollins to a remote area of Gooding County where they beat and stabbed him to death. The body of Rollins was found in a shallow grave 3 months later.

The 2 teens, who are being charged as adults, each had their first appearance in court on January 2nd, 2025.
