Easter Storm Expected to Bring Flooding and Snow to Parts of California

This will most likely not be an ideal Easter weekend for outdoor activities across California. Snow, rain, and high winds are expected to hit today and last into Easter Sunday evening.

The storm will come in two phases, so if there is a break before Sunday you shouldn’t get your hopes up too much. But maybe step outside if you see a ray of sunshine and soak it up while it lasts. The second storm has already begun in much of California.

Easter Storm to Bring Rain, Wind, and Snow to California

Accuweather says this storm could be the last major storm of the season in California. It will bring rain to the majority of the state and the Sierra and LA Basin could get 1 to 2 feet of snowfall.

The Weather Channel claims the snowfall in the Sierra, especially the southern Sierra, will get 1 to 2 feet of snow and the mountains into Southern California could get between 6 inches and 2 feet from Saturday into Sunday night.

The rain in the Golden State isn’t expected to amount to a lot, maybe a few inches. The issue will be that it will fall heavy and cause flooding and mudslides. Some rain could continue into Monday but is expected to dry out by Tuesday. The Los Angeles area is under a Flood Watch from Friday night until Sunday night. Thunderstorms are possible in LA and southwest California during this timeframe too.

Wind will also be an issue during the weekend storm. San Francisco and Sacramento have Wind Advisories in effect with wind gusts up to 45 miles per hour.
