Hurry: Idaho Gamers Could Be Eligible For Epic Games Refunds
Fortnite Refunds Following Epic Games Settlement
Idaho gamers have to be excited to hear that Fortnite players are getting some cash back. The Federal Trade Commission ruling against Epic Games will cost them $245 million to address the allegations of deceptive practices, including using "dark patterns" that cause players to make unintended in-game purchases.
Did You Play Fortnite Between 2017 and 2022?
Epic Games, who created Fortnite, was accused of unethical billing tactics between 2017 and 2022. What are "dark Patterns?" They made accidental purchases easy with a single button press, even during actions like waking the game from sleep mode. The FTC also claims they would lock accounts of players who knew what happened and were disputing the charges.

The Refund Process
If you experience unintended charges or account lockouts, you may qualify for a refund. The FTC has started distributing $72 million in the first round of refunds, and more payments are expected soon. About 63,000 players nationwide will receive refunds of around $114 each.
- Eligibility: Submit a claim if you were affected by Epic's billing practices.
- Deadline: File before January 10, 2024.
- Payments: Refunds are issued via PayPal or checks and are redeemable within a set timeframe.
What Epic Games Has Changed Since the Settlement
After the 2022 settlement, Epic updated payment systems, clarified purchasing processes, and simplified refunds. The company also implemented safeguards to build a safer, more transparent environment for all players.
