Salmonella: Health Food Sold at California Walmart Recalled
Recall of Great Value Organic Black Chia Seeds Due to Potential Salmonella Contamination
Natural Sourcing International has issued a voluntary recall of a specific lot of Great Value Organic Black Chia Seeds (32 oz.) sold at Walmart stores nationwide, including in California. The recall is prompted by the potential presence of Salmonella, a dangerous bacterium that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections, particularly in young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems.
Health Risks of Salmonella
Infection with Salmonella can cause symptoms like fever, diarrhea (which can be bloody), nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. Severe cases can result in the infection spreading to the bloodstream, leading to more serious conditions such as arterial infections, endocarditis, and arthritis. Although no adverse reactions have been reported from consuming the recalled chia seeds, the recall is being conducted as a precautionary measure to protect consumers.
