A new scam is hitting the Treasure Valley and this one plays a card that scams of the past haven't played before. The scammer is pretending to be your boss.

According to an article on KTVB, the scam involves receiving an email, supposedly from your boss asking you to run an errand to pick up some eBay gift cards for a client.

A Boise woman who was a victim says the email contained her boss's first and last name.

The woman says she went to Target to buy the $1400 worth of gift cards the email from her "boss" had requested.

The only reason this scam was busted is that the woman didn't have her ID on her.

That's when the victim texted her boss and said "can I run to the DMV and get a new license because I can't get these gift cards without a license" her boss replied, "what are you talking about?"

The victim's boss confirmed she had never sent an email with those instructions.

Boise Police's Crime Prevention Supervisor, Ed Fritz said: "These scams happen frequently because there is so much personal information out there."

He says if you work for a business or you have a business and you get a text or a phone call from your boss you should do a quick verify to make sure it's legit.
