I can't imagine what it must feel like to need food during a pandemic. I remember standing in line as a kid for dairy and protein when my father was a plumber in the union. That was a long time ago.

Idahoans like so many other Americans continue to struggle. You have to prioritize the needs and wants which means parents might not eat to keep food on their kid's plates. That's a reality for some of our neighbors. The Idaho Food Bank realizes we have a long road ahead and Wednesday they will give back boxes of food to the families who need some help right now.

The USDA Farmers to Families Food Box program has been giving back since the beginning of the pandemic. Wednesday at the Ford Idaho Center in Nampa will be just another way to help your family. The program chooses locations throughout Idaho to distribute boxes filled with the items essential to your family's healthy needs.

  • Fresh fruits
  • Vegetables
  • Dairy products
  • Protein

There are no rules or special circumstances you must qualify for. Just drive to the Ford Idaho Center and open up your trunk. You don't even need to get out. The Idaho Food Bank will fill your trunk with a few boxes filled with those items.

I spoke with the food bank months ago when the team just wanted Idahoans to know the food is yours. Spend your money on paying bills and taking care of the family. Let the Farmers to Families Food Box Program take a financial load off for the time.

I have so much respect for everything our farmers do and admiration for the tireless work our Idaho Food Bank does. Truly heroes at every location. If you don't need any food that's okay. Show up and take some boxes to a neighbor. Pay close attention to the links with the website. Save that link so you can check back. These distributions have been extended through the end of April.

These times are very important. I would suggest being there sooner than later.
