California Man Tries to Outrun Police, Arrested in Eastern Idaho
A California man was arrested recently in the Gem State on the felony charge, among others, of eluding a peace offer, Idaho State Police said.
State police tried to initiate a traffic stop around 5 p.m. last Thursday, Oct. 24, just north of Fort Hall, but instead of stopping the driver of the vehicle, later identified as 18-year-old Angelo D. Casio, continued northbound on Interstate 15 at a high rate of speed.
Casio, of Lancater, Calif., was driving a Mercury Sable and, while he tried to outrun police troopers, crashed into the back of another vehicle, a Mazda MPV van driven by Stephanie N. Williams, 34, of Blackfoot, who was driving northbound on I-15. Jason D. Palmer, 42, also of Blackfoot, was driving northbound in a Honda Accord.
Police said,
Just south of Blackfoot Exit 93, Casio drove into the rear of Williams' Mazda. The Mercury overturned and continued sliding north on the interstate on its top before striking Palmer's vehicle. The Mazda came to rest in the right hand lane of travel.
Casio was taken by police to Bingham Memorial Hospital for medical clearance before taking him to the Bingham County Jail. Police said charges against Casio include felony eluding of a peace officer, felony possession of methamphetamine, misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, failure to purchase a driver's license, failure to provide proof of insurance, expired vehicle registration, and failure to wear a seatbelt.
